Cardiff University
Friday–Saturday, 2–3 September 2022
The British Group of Early American Historians invites submissions for conference papers and panels on early American history for its annual conference taking place at Cardiff University in September 2022. The organisers conceive of early America quite broadly, and invite submissions from scholars working on North America and its Caribbean and Atlantic nodes and connections. This year, papers related to the history of borders are particularly welcome. There will also be space to discuss events related to the United States Semiquincentennial in July 2026, and proposals related to the American Revolution, its British and European contexts, and its commemoration will be warmly received.
Please email proposals for single papers or panels to the Programme Committee chair, Dr Rachel Herrmann, at HerrmannR@cardiff.ac.uk with the subject line BGEAH 2022. Proposals (with the name of the submitter and BGEAH in the file name) should be sent as an attachment by 15 June. Submissions should include a summary of no more than 200 words and a brief (1-2 pp) C.V.
As part of BGEAH’s ongoing commitment to national engagement, speakers are encouraged from across the UK, and funds are available to assist ECR attendees with conference expenses. In light of the lifting of Coronavirus restrictions in Wales, it is anticipated that this conference will take place in person. As of March 2022, masks are still required in all teaching spaces. We will be monitoring the situation and communicating accordingly with attendees.
